Big action against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, court orders confiscation of properties and sealing of bank accounts of relatives

Major action is going to be taken against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In her own country, the court has ordered the confiscation of properties and sealing of bank accounts of relatives. Apart from Hasina, instructions have been given to confiscate properties against many relatives including her son. The former PM is currently in exile in India.

After the application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, the court has given instructions to take this action against Hasina and her relatives. The court has also ordered the confiscation of properties owned by her son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana and her daughters Tulip Siddiqui and Radwan Mujib Siddiqui. UN human rights chief Volker Turk has said that the world body had warned the Bangladesh Army that if it got involved in violence during the student protests in July-August 2024, it would be banned from UN peacekeeping missions. Last year, students in Bangladesh staged massive protests, which led to the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government, which was in power for more than 15 years, on August 5. Three days later, Muhammad Yunus took over as the chief advisor of the interim government.

A Dhaka court has ordered the confiscation of Hasina’s Dhanmondi residence Sudhasadan and other properties. An official said that the court has also ordered the confiscation of 124 bank accounts linked to her family. The orders were issued on Tuesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hussain Galib.
