Abused, punched on the chest… Young scientist killed in parking dispute in Mohali, Punjab

A scientist lost his life in a fight over parking in Sector 66 of Mohali, Punjab. In this incident that took place on Tuesday night, 39-year-old Abhishek Swarnkar, who worked in IISER, died. Abhishek was a resident of Jharkhand. He had returned to India from abroad due to health reasons. Recently he had a kidney transplant. He was also on dialysis. One of his two married sisters donated a kidney to him. Abhishek lived with his elderly parents in a rented house in Mohali. His family has accused neighbor Monty of attacking Abhishek.

Monty is an IT professional. The family says that Monty was aware of Abhishek’s fragile health, yet he attacked him. The entire incident was captured in CCTV. According to the police, the argument started at around 8:30 pm and soon it escalated to a scuffle. Eyewitnesses said that Monty first abused Abhishek. Then he was thrown to the ground and punched repeatedly. Roma, a tenant living in the area, said that I heard loud screams and ran outside. I saw Monty attacking Abhishek.

She further said that when Abhishek fell on the ground, Monty was repeatedly punching him in the chest. When Abhishek fainted, Monty panicked and took him to the hospital. Monty also collided with a car on the way to a private hospital. Doctors declared Abhishek dead. Police station in-charge Gagandeep Singh said on Wednesday that a case has been registered after the family’s complaint. He said that the post-mortem will be done on Thursday. After this, appropriate legal action will be taken.
