Karnataka government backtracked on actress Ranya Rao gold smuggling case, withdraws order of CID probe

The interrogation of Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested in the gold smuggling case, is going on. Now there is a new twist in this case. The Karnataka government has withdrawn the order of CID investigation in this case. Last week, Ranya Rao was arrested by DRI at Bengaluru airport while bringing 14.2 kg gold from Dubai. After the arrest, it was found that she was getting police escort. A CID investigation was ordered to investigate this escort, which has now been withdrawn. This decision has been taken within just 24 hours.
If sources are to be believed, this decision has come after pressure from some people. There is a fear that if the police constable reveals anything, then big officials can get trapped. This constable was escorting Ranya Rao. Ranya is the daughter of DGP (Karnataka Police Housing Corporation) Ramachandra Rao. The Home Department has justified this decision and said that another investigation is going on. The responsibility of this investigation has been given to senior IAS officer and Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta. This investigation will investigate the role of the State Protocol Wing and DGP Rao.
Police constable gave this statement
Head constable Basavaraj of Airport Police Station gave a statement to CBI on Tuesday. He said that I was given verbal instructions by senior IPS officers to receive and drop their family members at the airport. He further said that I did not know anything about gold smuggling.
What did the senior IPS officer say on taking back the CID investigation
On withdrawing the CID investigation, a senior IPS officer said that the Home Department had ordered the CID investigation. The decision to withdraw it has also been taken by the Home Department. This statement raises many questions. Is this really just a coincidence or is there something else? There may be more revelations in this case in the coming days. It remains to be seen what further steps the government takes in this matter.
