To control the increasing traffic and pollution, Nainital Municipality has passed a proposal to impose tax on the lines of Mussoorie. In such a situation, private vehicles entering Nainital may soon have to pay eco tax.

Till now toll tax was collected from the vehicles entering Nainital from Tallital area. However, now under the new proposal, tax will also be applicable on vehicles coming from Bhawali and Kaladhungi. This proposal has been approved in the first board meeting of the municipality and it has been decided to take legal opinion before implementing it.

Environment improvement activities will get a boost

Due to the high number of private vehicles, the problem of parking and pollution increases in Nainital. In such a situation, the local administration faces difficulties in controlling this crowd, due to which this decision has been taken. Nainital Municipality EO Deepak Goswami said that this eco tax will promote environmental improvement activities and will also increase the income of the municipality.

Eco tax will have to be paid

The municipality has decided to implement the tax after taking legal opinion. If it gets approval, then in the coming days, tourists going to Nainital will have to pay eco tax. It is being speculated that the decision of the municipality to impose eco tax will improve the traffic and environmental conditions in Nainital.
