RIL shares found while cleaning the house, 37 year old shares worth lakhs, said- ‘I will donate half’

They say that no one knows when luck changes. Something similar happened with Ratan Dhillon, a resident of Chandigarh. Before Holi, Ratan was cleaning his house. During this time, he found two old pieces of paper. At first, he did not pay much attention to it. But when he looked closely, he was surprised. During cleaning, he found papers of RIL company’s shares (reliance shares). Whose value is in lakhs today.

RIL shares found while cleaning the house

Ratan shared these papers on social media platform X (Twitter) and asked for help from people. He wrote, “I do not know much about the stock market. Can I still claim these shares on the basis of these documents?”

37 year old shares became worth lakhs (reliance shares)

Actually these documents were of 30 shares of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) bought between 1987 and 1992. At that time their price was Rs 10 per share. That is, a total investment of Rs 300 was made. As soon as this post went viral, some experts commented that in the last 37 years, Reliance shares have split three times and turned into bonus twice. This means that the number of those 30 shares would now be 960! When calculated according to the current price. So it was found that these shares are now worth about Rs 11.88 lakh.

Now the price is Rs 18 lakh

However, later Ratan Dhillon himself told that he has started the process of getting his shares back. He got the right guidance from IEPFA i.e. Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority. IEPFA confirmed that the real value of his 37-year-old investment has exceeded Rs 18 lakh!

Will donate half the amount

After receiving shares worth lakhs, Ratan Dhillon announced that he will donate half of the amount, i.e. Rs 9 lakh. He said, “I never thought that such old shares could be worth crores today. This is no less than a blessing for me, so I want to use a part of it for good work.”

Funny reactions from people

As soon as this news went viral, there was a flood of funny reactions on social media. One user wrote, “Bhai sahab, you have hit the jackpot.” Another joked, “Now search in every corner of the house, you might find MRF shares too!” After this news, you can also search for old papers in your house.

If you have old shares, you can claim them like this

If you also find your grandfather or father’s old share certificate among the old papers. Then there is no need to panic! You can claim your shares by following these steps:-

  • Check the availability of shares by visiting the IEPFA portal.
  • Upload Aadhaar, PAN and bank details to prove your identity.
  • Contact the Depository Participant (DP) or the Registrar of the Company for share transfer.
  • If the shares have been transferred to IEPFA, then file a claim there.
