In this regard, an attempt is being made to tarnish the image of the Cooperative Minister and the Cooperative Department. He said that it has been learned through social media that a society named Loni Urban Cooperative Society (LUCC) has lost money of a large number of investors in this committee.

The Additional Registrar clarified that there is no registration of the committee of this name with the Uttarakhand Cooperative Department. But through social media, the image of the department is being tarnished by linking this committee to the Cooperative Department.
Upreti said that there are provisions for strict action in cases of attempts to tarnish the reputation of the department through Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media. If such a complaint is received again, strict action will be taken against the accused. Under Section 66 of the IT Act, there is a provision of three years’ imprisonment in such cases. Also, a separate case of defamation is made.
Appeal to check the authenticity before posting on social media
Upreti said that according to the IT Act, if any electronic medium is used to defame a person, make false allegations, make baseless comments, tarnish reputation, taunt or throw mud on someone’s reputation, then there is a provision for strict action against the accused. Before uploading any news or social media post, the department has appealed to check its authenticity.
