Premchand Agarwal had to lose his ministerial chair due to giving a controversial statement in the House during the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly budget session. For this reason, he also resigned from his post. After Premchand Agarwal’s resignation, it was believed that this controversy would end here. But now the Congress has also raised the demand for BJP to take action against the leaders supporting Premchand Agarwal. In this, the first name taken by the Congress is that of BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt. Congress says that it is not going to sit together so easily on this issue.

In fact, on 21 February 2025, the then Parliamentary Affairs Minister Premchand Agarwal had given a controversial statement in the House, after which BJP and Premchand Agarwal himself were on the target of the people. There were fierce protests against Premchand Agarwal across the state. People demanded that BJP should remove Premchand Agarwal from the post of minister.

After Premchand Agarwal, Congress now implicated Mahendra Bhatt: During this, a Pahadi Swabhiman rally was organized in Gairsain, in which even the state agitators participated. In this rally, a protest was also held demanding the dismissal of Premchand Agarwal from the cabinet, on which a statement by BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt also came.

Mahendra Bhatt had said that through this movement in Gairsain, some street-side leaders are preparing a blueprint for the 2027 assembly elections. In this statement, Mahendra Bhatt further linked the case of Premchand Agarwal, which further inflamed the anger of the people. Other political and social organizations including Congress started demanding action against Premchand Agarwal as well as BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt. At the same time, Congress is now trying to surround the BJP on Mahendra Bhatt’s statement after Premchand Agarwal.

Congress statement:

Mahendra Bhatt had called the entire community, which was leading this movement, street-side. Who were the people in this movement? Retired army men and those who had agitated for the state. This was not a fight for the mountain, but for Uttarakhandi identity, so that no one is insulted. Mahendra Bhatt has insulted those people and did not even apologize to anyone for his statement. That is why Congress is not going to sit quiet until BJP takes any action against Mahendra Bhatt.

When senior BJP leader and party MLA Vinod Chamoli was also questioned on this matter, he said that after ending this issue, the state should now move forward towards development. But the opposition does not want development plans to move forward in the state. The burning issues of the state should be resolved. The opposition wants to do politics on it by keeping the issues alive at all costs.

MLA Vinod Chamoli says that the opposition is clearly trying to weaken the BJP. But BJP is not going to take any decision on the behest of the opposition, while the BJP leadership is so mature that they will take the decision at the right time. Vinod Chamoli just said on the statement given by the BJP state president that this is his statement, on which he cannot comment anything.
