The Supreme Court has given clarification after the controversy sparked by the news of Justice Yashwant Verma’s transfer to Allahabad High Court. The court has said that wrong information and rumors are being spread. In this case, the Collegium issued a statement in the press and said that Justice Verma has not been transferred to Allahabad High Court.

Response sought from Justice Verma

According to the Supreme Court, answers have been sought from the concerned judges and Justice Verma himself on this issue, which will be decided after examining. Justice Yashwant Verma is the second most senior judge in the Delhi High Court and is also a member of the Collegium. There is a proposal to transfer him to his original High Court, i.e. Allahabad High Court. There he will be ninth in seniority. This proposal is different from the in-house investigation process.

Fire department said – no cash found

Justice Verma was out of town when a fire broke out at his residence, after which his family called the fire brigade. It is being said that after controlling the fire, the fire personnel found a large amount of cash inside a room. However, Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg told PTI that firefighters did not find any cash while dousing the fire at Verma’s residence.

“Immediately after the fire was doused, we informed the police about the fire incident. Following this, a team of fire department personnel left the spot. Our firefighters did not find any cash while dousing the fire,” Atul Garg said.

Collegium to pass a resolution

The Delhi High Court Chief Justice had initiated the probe on March 20 ahead of the collegium meeting. The Supreme Court said he will submit his report to the Chief Justice today. Following this, the report will be examined and necessary action will be taken. The proposal was examined by the collegium of the CJI and the four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court on March 20. Following this, letters were written to the consulting judges of the apex court, the Chief Justices of the respective high courts and Justice Yashwant Verma. The replies received will be examined and the collegium will then pass a resolution, the statement said.
