The Uttarakhand Waqf Board on Thursday decided to distribute free food kits among poor Muslims on the occasion of Eid. Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams said that this packet named ‘Modi-Dhami’ kit will include two liters of milk, two kilograms of rice, one kilogram of sugar, a packet of vermicelli and dry fruits.
Free clothes will be given to children
Shams said that this decision was taken in the first online meeting of the board. He said that apart from these kits, free clothes will also be given to the children as gifts. Shams said that a temporary state-level Waqf Tribunal will also be constituted by the end of this month to settle the pending cases of large-scale encroachment on Waqf properties. It was also decided in the meeting that rent should be charged at market rate or prevailing circle rate from the tenants of Waqf properties being used for commercial purposes.
Action will be taken against these people after Eid
The chairman of the Waqf Board said, “Currently the board is getting only Rs 100-150 rent from its properties worth thousands of rupees. We have decided to end this and charge them rent as per market or circle rate so that the money collected in this way can be used for the poor.” The board has also decided to take strict action after Eid against those who are living in their bungalows and have given the Waqf property on rent to others.
