China does not desist from its tricks. Every day it keeps showing some or the other trickery on the borders adjoining India. Now it has announced the establishment of two new districts in the border area adjoining Ladakh. India has strongly objected to this announcement of China. The central government informed the Parliament on Friday that formal protest has been lodged against China through diplomatic means on this issue.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, ‘The Government of India has never accepted China’s illegal occupation of Indian territory in this area. The creation of these new districts will not affect our long and clear stand on India’s sovereignty, nor will it give any legitimacy to China’s illegal and forcible occupation.’
The government was asked in Parliament whether it was aware of China creating two new districts in Hotan Prefecture, which includes part of the Indian territory of Ladakh. Apart from this, information was also sought about the strategic and diplomatic steps taken to deal with this situation.
Responding, the minister said that the government is fully aware of this announcement and is keeping an eye on the infrastructure development being done by China in the border areas. He said, ‘The Government of India pays special attention to the development of infrastructure in the border areas so that not only the economic development of these areas can take place, but also India’s strategic and security needs can be met. ‘ According to the ministry, there has been a significant increase in the budget allocation for border infrastructure between 2014 and 2024. The expenditure of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has increased three times compared to the last decade. There has also been a significant increase in the number of road networks, bridges and tunnels, which has improved the connectivity of local communities and strengthened logistical support for the armed forces. The government clarified that it is keeping a close watch on every development related to India’s security and will take every necessary step to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
