According to a report by Mint, NPCI has clarified that the UPI service of such users whose mobile numbers are not active for a long time will be stopped from April 1. That is, such users will not be able to use online payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm. In such a situation, if you want to continue UPI payment without any interruption, then check as soon as possible whether your mobile number is updated in the bank records or not.
UPI of these people will be closed
According to the report, the UPI service of such users whose mobile number is not active for a long time will be stopped. Apart from this, if you have changed your mobile number and have not updated the new number in the bank, then your UPI service may be stopped. Also, if the old number has been closed but the bank has not been told, then the UPI service will be stopped.
Do this to keep the UPI service running
If you want to keep the UPI service running, then update your mobile number in the bank. If you have recently changed your mobile number, then get it updated in the bank immediately. At the same time, if the mobile number linked to the bank is not active, then get it activated again.
Why did NPCI take this step?
NPCI says that there is a risk of fraud and cyber crime from UPI IDs linked to deactivated mobile numbers. Often when people get a new number, they close the old number but do not update it in the bank. In such a situation, if that number is found by another person, then he intentionally or accidentally tampers with the old UPI account.
Therefore, NPCI has instructed banks and payment apps to remove long deactivated mobile numbers. This will prevent fraud and cyber crime and make the UPI ecosystem more secure.
