The rescue center at Dhela in Corbett Tiger Reserve will now be able to house 32 tigers and 48 leopards simultaneously. This has been made possible after approval from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA). This step is being seen as an important achievement in the field of wildlife conservation.

This problem used to occur in the rescue center

At present, enclosures for 10 tigers and 10 leopards are available in the Dhela Rescue Center, where they are treated and cared for. However, due to the increasing number, this capacity was almost full, causing difficulty in providing space to injured or attacking new wildlife. In view of this situation, the Corbett administration started efforts to increase the capacity of the center.

Important step in wildlife conservation and promotion

After continuous efforts, the Central Zoo Authority has approved increasing the capacity of the rescue center. Under this approval, now 32 tigers and 48 leopards can be kept together in the center. Apart from this, arrangements will also be made for the treatment of five elephants, deer and for the first time injured birds in the Kumaon region. This step will play an important role in wildlife conservation and promotion, which will help in preserving biodiversity in the area.

With the increase in the capacity of the rescue center, now more number of injured and needy wildlife will be taken care of. Which will further strengthen the conservation efforts of wildlife. Dr. Saket Badola, Director, CTR

PM Modi had announced

This rescue center spread over 30 hectares was completed in the year 2020. But CZA permission was required for operation. After sending the proposal three times, now the proposal to design and keep additional wildlife as per the standards has been approved.
