There was chaos once again at the New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday. A large number of passengers had gathered on platform numbers 12 and 13 of the railway station, due to which the situation became chaotic. It is being told that due to the delay in the departure of some trains, the crowd of passengers on the platform suddenly increased. Delhi Police has also issued a statement in this regard.
Regarding the incident, Delhi Police said, “A large number of passengers had gathered on platform numbers 12 and 13 of New Delhi Railway Station due to the delay in the departure of Shiv Ganga Express, Swatantrata Senani Express, Jammu Rajdhani Express, Lucknow Mail and Magadh Express. Due to the delay of these trains, a huge crowd of passengers was seen on the platforms. The situation became chaotic and a stampede-like atmosphere was created, which was similar to the crowd management challenges seen during the previous Maha Kumbh arrangements. Necessary crowd control measures should be taken immediately to avoid any untoward incident. No one was reported injured.”
The rush increased due to the delay in departure of the following major trains:
- Shiv Ganga Express (scheduled departure time 08:05 PM) left at 09:20 PM.
Swatantrata Senani Express (scheduled departure time 09:15 PM) was already standing on the platform.
Jammu Rajdhani Express (scheduled departure time 09:25 PM) was getting delayed.
Lucknow Mail (scheduled departure time 10:00 PM) was also running late.
Magadh Express (scheduled departure time 09:05 PM) had not been placed on any platform yet.
The Railway Ministry has also said in its statement that there was a huge crowd at the New Delhi Railway Station, but they have denied any stampede like situation. The ministry said that the protocol of taking unreserved passengers from the holding area is being used to handle the situation.
