Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale reviewed the schemes of the Social Welfare Department at Bijapur Guest House on Sunday. During this, Additional Secretary Prakash Chandra informed the minister about the schemes of the department and their progress.

The Additional Secretary told the Union Minister that 9.15 lakh elderly people, widows, disabled, abandoned women and farmers are taking advantage of monthly pension. The process of giving scholarships to 1.07 lakh students in 2024-25 is underway. Apart from this, 15 Scheduled Caste hostels are running, in which 489 students are living. Two hostels are operating in Bageshwar under Babu Jagjivan Ram Yojana. Each has 100 seats. Along with this, 26 seats of Thakkarbaba hostel in Tehri are approved.
Additional Secretary Prakash Chandra said that 255 students are taking training in 3 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) with 380 seats. Free accommodation, food, books and dress are provided in 5 Ashram system schools with 1190 seats. Apart from this, there are 3 old age homes with 124 seats. There are 3 Divyang workshops with 148 seats and a de-addiction center with 30 seats is being operated in Haldwani. In 2024-25, Rs 41.64 crore has been sanctioned for 308 construction works in Scheduled Caste dominated villages.
Minister expressed satisfaction over the schemes
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has expressed satisfaction over the progress of social welfare schemes. He talked about sending a letter to the state government to increase the inter-caste marriage grant from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh. The minister said that work is also being done on the plan to open a de-addiction center in every district. The minister said that the government will start more new schemes for the weaker sections of the society so that the needy can get direct benefit.
