The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday raided 60 locations in Chhattisgarh, Bhopal, Kolkata and Delhi in a case related to the Mahadev betting app. The raids targeted the premises of politicians, senior bureaucrats, police officials, key officials of Mahadev Book and other private individuals suspected of being involved in the illegal operation.

Mahadev Book, an online betting platform, is promoted by Ravi Uppal and Saurabh Chandrakar, both of whom are currently in Dubai. According to the CBI, the investigation has revealed that these promoters paid huge amounts of money to government employees as “protection fees” to run the operations of their illegal network smoothly.

Arrest of Saurabh Chandrakar and CBI investigation

Saurabh Chandrakar, promoter of the Mahadev app, was arrested from Dubai in November 2024 after Interpol issued a red corner notice against him. The notice was issued at the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The CBI said that during the investigation in this case, important digital and documentary evidence has been recovered, which has been seized.

The case was first registered by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) Raipur, but later the Chhattisgarh government handed over the matter to the CBI for a thorough investigation. The CBI is now investigating the role of senior public officials and other accused persons in this case.

CBI raids Bhupesh Baghel’s hideouts too

This morning, the CBI also raided the residences of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel. This raid has been done in a case related to the Mahadev Betting App. Bhupesh Baghel was scheduled to leave for Delhi today, where he was to attend the meeting of the ‘Drafting Committee’ of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of the Congress. This meeting is being organized for the AICC meeting to be held on 8-9 April in Ahmedabad (Gujarat).

Bhupesh Baghel’s office posted on social media, “Now the CBI has arrived. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was going to Delhi today, but before that the CBI reached his residence in Raipur and Bhilai.”
