There is going to be a big change in the law and order of four thousand villages of Uttarakhand, the High Court had given the decision

The system of revenue police is gradually going to end from the state. According to the decision of the government, now in the second phase, more than four thousand revenue villages are being brought under the purview of civil police. In the first phase, 1200 revenue villages have been brought under the purview of police.
Now to bring other villages under the purview of civil police, the government has asked the police to prepare an action plan and give a proposal. In the sequence of the decision of the Uttarakhand High Court, all the revenue areas of the state are to be brought under the purview of civil police. The state government decided to include the villages coming in the revenue areas in the civil police in a phased manner.
In the first phase, the state government constituted six police stations and 21 outposts in February 2023 for the deployment of civil police in more than 1200 villages of revenue areas. Posts have also been created for these. More than two years have passed since the formation of these police stations and outposts.
The government has examined the working style and number of personnel of these police stations during this period. In such a situation, preparations have started to deploy civil police in other revenue villages in the second phase. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while taking information about the progress made in this regard in a recent meeting, had asked to make a proposal for this soon.
In this episode, the government has written a letter to the Police Headquarters and asked to submit its proposal to the government soon so that new posts can also be created for them according to the number of police stations and outposts.
Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli said that a proposal has been sought from the Police Headquarters for the deployment of civil police in revenue areas. After studying this proposal, police stations and outposts will be established in these villages.
What is the Revenue Police System
Uttarakhand is the only state in the country where the Revenue Police System exists. They were deployed to maintain law and order in the mountainous areas. Revenue police have powers like civil police.
The Patwari of the Revenue Department has the rights like a Deputy Inspector of Police, the Kanungo has the rights of an Inspector and the Tehsildar has the rights like a Superintendent of Police. Some time back, the High Court, in view of the increasing crimes in the hilly areas, has given instructions to bring the revenue area under the purview of civil police.
