Uttar Pradesh: Karni Sena attacked the house of the MP who called Rana Sanga a traitor, several policemen injured

Karni Sena workers created a ruckus at the house of Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ramji Lal Suman in Agra on Tuesday. The dispute that started after the MP called Mewar ruler Rana Sanga a ‘traitor’ has now reached violent protests. Karni Sena workers pelted stones at Suman’s Agra residence, broke barricades, vandalized vehicles and damaged chairs kept in the house. During this, several policemen were seriously injured in a clash between the police and the protesters.

Root of the controversy: Calling Rana Sanga a ‘traitor’

Ramji Lal Suman had given a statement in the Rajya Sabha on March 21, 2025, in which he termed Rana Sanga a ‘traitor’ and said that he had a role in bringing Babur to India. Suman said, “Babur was invited by Rana Sanga to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. If Muslims are called descendants of Babur, then why are Hindus not descendants of Rana Sanga?” This statement created outrage in many parts of the country including the Rajput community.

Karni Sena’s anger: Attack and reward announced

In Agra, Karni Sena workers reached the MP’s house with a bulldozer and staged a violent protest. Despite the presence of police, the situation went out of control in front of the number and aggression of the protesters. Earlier, in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal, Karni Sena protested outside the SP state office and burnt the effigy of Suman as well as SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. The organization also announced a reward against Suman, saying that five lakh rupees will be given to the person who blackens his face and hits him with shoes.

He said, “These are the same people who glorify Babur, Aurangzeb and Jinnah. What do they know about great men like Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga and Chhatrapati Shivaji?” At the same time, Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also strongly condemned Suman’s statement.

After the controversy escalated, Ramji Lal Suman gave a clarification. He said, “My intention was not to hurt anyone’s feelings. I spoke on the basis of historical fact that Babar came on the invitation of Rana Sanga. I respect all castes and communities.” However, his clarification failed to calm the outrage.
