On one hand, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation is running in crores of losses, on the other hand, its drivers and conductors are running the buses empty. The situation is such that two passengers are found sitting in some buses and three in others.

When the Transport Corporation Headquarters got the buses checked, this truth came to light. The General Manager (Operations) of the Corporation, Pawan Mehra, has expressed displeasure over this and has ordered to set a target for the daily income of the buses. Along with this, the Assistant General Managers of all the depots have also been asked to send a weekly report of this.

In the order issued by General Manager Pawan Mehra, it was told that on March 17 and March 20, when the buses going from ISBT Doon to Haridwar via Rispana Bridge were checked, very few passengers were found in them. These include buses of mountain, rural and Haridwar depots. Similarly, only two passengers were found in the bus of Lohaghat depot going from Doon.

The number of passengers was found to be very less in the buses operated towards Dehradun of Nainital and Tanakpur divisions. In the investigation, it was found that most of the drivers and conductors are not showing interest in seating passengers from Doon to Haridwar, whereas passengers from Haridwar, Raiwala, Doiwala etc. are standing in sufficient numbers on the route. Due to the buses not stopping, these passengers have to travel in buses of other states or illegal vehicles.

The target of daily income of all buses will be fixed, action will also be taken against the officers

The General Manager ordered all the divisional and depot officers to set the target of daily income of the buses and review it regularly. Orders have been given to take strict action against the drivers and conductors who do not earn income as per the target. It was warned that if the depot officers are negligent in this, action will also be taken against them.

Orders to checking teams

The checking teams were ordered to check the buses on the routes regularly and the report of the buses which get less passengers should be immediately sent to the corporation headquarters. Orders were also given to counsel the drivers and conductors who earn less income.

Demand to increase house rent allowance

Uttarakhand Roadways Joint Employees Council has demanded revision of house rent allowance rate of employees. In a letter sent by the General Secretary of the Council Dinesh Pant to the Secretary of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, it was said that the Transport Corporation had sent a proposal to the government to give the benefit of revised house rent allowance to the employees in July-2022, but till now the employees are not able to get this benefit. They have raised the demand to give house rent allowance as per the seventh pay scale.
