The spark of rebellion is flaring up anytime in the Pakistani army. Junior officers have adopted a rebellious attitude against Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir. Junior officers of the Pakistani army have demanded the resignation of Army Chief General Munir. While demanding this, the officers have written a scathing letter, in which they accused Munir of using the army as a means for political oppression and personal revenge. CNN-News 18 has reported in its report that this letter has been written by officers of the rank of Colonel, Major and Captain.

It criticizes Munir’s leadership and says that it has pushed Pakistan into the abyss. Munir’s leadership has been compared to 1971, when Pakistan had to face a terrible defeat, which resulted in the formation of Bangladesh.

Warning to General Munir

The letter warned in very harsh language, saying, ‘This is not an appeal. This is not a compromise conversation. This is your 1971 General and we will not let you be buried in this shadow.’ The officials accused Munir of destroying the reputation of the army by suppressing political dissent, silencing journalists and crushing democratic forces. It highlights the violent action after the removal of Imran Khan in April 2022 and the alleged manipulation of the 8 February 2024 elections as decisive moments that have tarnished the credibility of the army.

The letter shows a horrific picture of the lives of the people under Munir’s leadership. The officials accused Munir of taking the country to economic ruin to save his power. ‘The economy has become a corpse and yet you roam around the headquarters like a dictator, extending your term till 2027 while we are dying of hunger.’

Voice to the anger of the public

It also mentions the anger of the public against the army. The letter reads, children throw stones at our posts. You have made the Pakistani army a stranger on your own land. The officers have compared the Army Chief to a fascist beast who is feasting at the expense of his own people.

The report has confirmed the letter citing top intelligence sources and has described it as an existential crisis for the army, Pakistan’s most powerful institution. The letter warns that if Munir does not step down, the army will take action itself. The officers have demanded that the command of the army be handed over to a council of senior officers who will restore the integrity of the institution and hold Munir accountable for his alleged crimes.

Will Munir be overthrown?

The letter describes the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train by fighters of the separatist organization BLA in Balochistan as a humiliating moment. We lost Balochistan that day, we lost our dignity. The officers also criticized Munir’s leadership for failing to uphold the traditional honor of the army. This internal rebellion in the Pakistani army indicates weakening power. In the letter, the officers have made it clear that if Munir does not step down, they will take action.
