For the past several days, Pakistan has been talking about sending Afghan refugees back to their country. For this, the Shahbaz government had also set a time. However, now Pakistan has become completely strict. Let us tell you that Pakistan has sent more than 200 Afghan refugees back to their country. Pakistan has done this before the deadline.

According to a local media report on Thursday, out of the 923 persons arrested in Rawalpindi, 213 were sent back to Afghanistan. This deportation took place before the March 31 deadline set by the Pakistani government. Pakistan’s leading ‘Dawn’ quoted sources as saying that after Islamabad started arresting and detaining refugees, 923 Afghan citizens were shifted to the Afghan Refugee Center near Golra Mor in Rawalpindi.

However, according to the report, 22 of the arrested detainees fled from the center on Wednesday and there were no prisoners in the center on Thursday.

Of the total Afghan refugees detained, 86 had expired visas, 116 had Afghan Citizen Cards (ACC) and 290 had Proof of Registration (POR). A senior police official told Dawn that it was very clear that the ACC holders would be expelled from Rawalpindi and Islamabad before the deadline.

Meanwhile, the government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has decided not to extend the March 31 deadline for Afghan nationals to leave the country. Earlier, Pakistan had turned down the Afghan government’s request to extend the stay of Afghan nationals living in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Condemning the Pakistani government, human rights group Amnesty International recently said that the government’s stubborn and cruel deadline reflects little respect for international human rights law.

Amnesty International posted on ‘X’, “The Pakistani government plans to arbitrarily and forcibly expel Afghan nationals, including refugees and asylum seekers, under the ‘Illegal Foreigner Repatriation Scheme’. This is scapegoating a community that has long been deprived and suffered persecution.
