Uttarakhand: Transport department ready for Chardham Yatra, 125 roadways buses will be run, passengers will get facilities

Uttarakhand Transport Department also plays an important role in providing facilities to the passengers in Chardham. In such a situation, the Uttarakhand Transport Department has decided to deploy 125 buses of the Transport Corporation on the Chardham Yatra route. So that the passengers coming to Chardham can get convenience. On the other hand, traffic arrangements are being improved. Also, the Transport Corporation will also be responsible for the arrangements of all the vehicles which will operate on the Chardham Yatra route.

Chardham Yatra 2025 starting from 30 April

Chardham Yatra 2025 in Uttarakhand is starting with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham on 30 April. Due to which the departments related to Chardham are engaged in preparations. In this episode, the Transport Department is also engaged in preparations. So that the devotees coming to Chardham Yatra do not have to face transport related problems.

125 roadways buses will be run in Chardham Yatra

In view of the upcoming Chardham Yatra, the Transport Corporation has decided to operate 125 buses on the Chardham Yatra route. In such a situation, the process of making green cards for these buses has also been expedited. So that, these buses can be operated on the travel route. However, these buses will be run on contract carriage permit.

5 lakh 20 thousand vehicles reached Chardham Yatra in the year 2024

Every year, lakhs of private and commercial vehicles travel during the Chardham Yatra. According to the information received from the Tourism Department, 5,68,459 vehicles had reached Chardham during the Chardham Yatra in the year 2023. At the same time, about 5 lakh 20 thousand vehicles had reached during the year 2024, but the Chardham Yatra has not started yet.

While, according to the registration data for the Yatra, 10,783 private vehicles have been registered till the evening of 28 March 2025. Through which devotees will visit the Dhams. However, the process of making green cards for commercial vehicles has not started yet, but it is estimated that the number of vehicles coming to the Dhams during the Chardham Yatra this year may cross 6 lakhs.

During that time, about 60 thousand people used to travel to Badrinath Dham during every Yatra season. Along with this, motor roads were built to Gangotri in the year 1969 and after the construction of Bhairon Valley bridge in the year 1987, the number of vehicles and passengers in Gangotri suddenly started increasing rapidly.

Operation of roadways buses on Chardham Yatra started from the year 2020

The operation of Transport Corporation buses on Chardham Yatra routes was started for the first time during the Corona period i.e. in the year 2020. Because, during that time the passenger capacity in buses was reduced to 50 percent. Due to which private bus operators had raised their hands. Since then, the Transport Corporation has been operating roadways buses on the travel routes. In this episode, during the Chardham Yatra 2025, the Transport Corporation has also decided to operate 125 buses on the travel routes.

What did Uttarakhand Transport Corporation MD Reena Joshi say?

At the same time, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation MD Reena Joshi said that the preparations of the Transport Corporation are complete for the upcoming Chardham Yatra. This time also the corporation’s buses will be operated on the Chardham Yatra route. At present, 125 buses will be deployed on the travel route, but if the Transport Department needs buses for the movement of passengers, then buses will also be made available to the Transport Department.

Some buses will be kept in reserve

Along with this, additional manpower as well as necessary equipment will be provided in Rishikesh, Haridwar and Srinagar depots. Not only this, apart from 125 buses, some buses will also be kept in reserve. So that, if any bus breaks down, the passengers can be sent by any other bus.

According to the Transport Department, 125 buses will be operated on the Char Dham Yatra route for now. Along with issuing permits for these buses from the Transport Department, the process and preparations are underway to make green cards. Buses have been identified from all three divisions of the state, which will be operated on the Yatra route. 59 buses will be operated from Dehradun division, 41 buses from Nainital division and 25 buses from Tanakpur division.
