Gift for Chardham pilgrims: Government will take care of your health, ‘Thoda Kam’ campaign starts from today

Chardham Yatra is going to start in Uttarakhand from 30th April. The Dhami government has launched the ‘Aaj se thoda kam’ campaign with the aim of providing healthy food to the pilgrims on the Chardham Yatra route.

‘Aaj se thoda kam’ campaign started in Uttarakhand

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that on the instructions of CM Dhami and Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, this campaign has been started at ground zero. The main objective of this initiative is to control the amount of excess salt, sugar and fat in food, so that diseases like heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure can be avoided. Restaurants and food shops are being encouraged to prepare healthy dishes and take care of nutritional balance with the help of chefs and food experts.

Oil will not have any side effects on health

The Health Secretary said that to further strengthen health security, the department has started the ‘Re-purpose Used Cooking Oil (RUCO)’ initiative. Under this, strict monitoring is being done to reduce the side effects of reused oil and prevent it from going back into the food chain. The used oil will be collected through the aggregator network and recycled into biodiesel, soap and other non-food products. This will prevent heart disease, high blood pressure and liver related diseases and will also protect the environment.

Implementation of ‘Triple EEE Strategy’

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that to ensure food safety, the administration has implemented the ‘Triple EEE Strategy’ (Educate, Enforce, Establish). Under this, Educate is to educate food businessmen and citizens about the side effects of used oil. Enforce is to strictly enforce compliance with food safety standards. Apart from this, Establish is to establish a strong system for the collection and disposal of used oil.

Providing nutritious food to pilgrims is the priority of the government

Food Safety Commissioner and Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that providing safe and nutritious food to the devotees on the Chardham Yatra is the priority of the government. Initiatives like ‘Aaj se thoda kam’ and ‘RUCO’ will not only ensure health safety but will also help in environmental protection.
