Mumbai tasted their first victory in IPL 2025, defeating Kolkata by 8 wickets

Mumbai Indians opened their account of victory in IPL 2025 on the basis of excellent performance of debutant Ashwini Kumar (4 wickets) and Ryan Rickleton (62*). Mumbai defeated Kolkata by 8 wickets with 43 balls to spare at the Wankhede Stadium.

Kolkata Knight Riders batted first and the entire team was all out for 116 runs in 16.2 overs. In reply, Mumbai Indians achieved the target in 12.5 overs for the loss of two wickets. Suryakumar Yadav played a trademark shot and hit a six towards fine leg to seal Mumbai’s victory.

Rickleton’s brilliant half-century

Chasing the target of 117 runs, Mumbai Indians got off to a solid start with Rohit Sharma (13) and Ryan Rickleton (62*) sharing a 46-run partnership. Andre Russell gave Mumbai the first blow by getting Rohit caught out by Harshit Rana. After this, Rickleton shared a 45-run partnership for the second wicket with Will Jacks (16).

Surya stole the show

Russell then got Will Jacks caught by Ajinkya Rahane at short covers. After this, Suryakumar Yadav came to the crease and soon ended the match. Surya scored an unbeaten 27 off just 9 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.

On the other hand, Rickleton scored a half-century off 33 balls with four fours and four sixes. He remained unbeaten on 62 off 60 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes. Andre Russell took both wickets for KKR.

Bad start for KKR

KKR, who came out to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium, had a very bad start. Trent Bolt clean bowled Sunil Narine in the first over. In the next over, Deepak Chahar got Quinton de Kock (1) caught by Ashwini Kumar.

Ashwini Kumar’s magic worked

After this, debutant Ashwini Kumar got KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane (11) caught by Tilak Verma. KKR lost four wickets in the powerplay. Then Ashwini took the wickets of Manish Pandey (19), Andre Russell (5) and Rinku Singh (17).

Ramandeep Singh (22) took KKR past 100 runs. Ashwini Kumar took the maximum of four wickets from Mumbai Indians. Deepak Chahar got two wickets. Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Vignesh Puthur and Mitchell Santner got one wicket each.
