Road accidents have increased a lot across the country. In such a situation, to strengthen road safety, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has made an important announcement regarding this. From now on, it will be mandatory for every two-wheeler company to provide two helmets (2 helmet rule) with any two-wheeler bike or scooter. These will be ISI certified and will be given to the buyers for free. Let us tell you that Gadkari made this announcement during an auto summit held in Delhi. The purpose of this decision is to reduce deaths in road accidents. Also, it is to motivate people to wear helmets.

Two ISI certified helmets will be necessary with two-wheelers 2 helmet rule

This decision of Gadkari has been welcomed by the Two Wheeler Helmet Manufacturers Association (THMA). THMA President Rajiv Kapoor called it a necessary decision for the country and said, “This is not just a new rule. Rather it is a big step towards saving the lives of millions of people. We have seen many families lose their loved ones in road accidents. Now this rule will help prevent those tragedies. We will ensure that high quality ISI certified helmets are easily available in the market.”

Horrifying statistics of road accidents

For your information, let us tell you that every year 4.80 lakh road accidents occur in India. Out of which about 1.88 lakh people lose their lives. In these, the death toll of two-wheeler drivers is close to 69 thousand. According to reports, more than 50% of deaths occur due to not wearing it. Not using a helmet increases the chances of serious head injury manifold. Which makes prevention difficult.

Benefits of wearing a helmet

  • Wearing a helmet has many benefits.
  • Head protection: The chances of serious head injury during an accident are reduced.
  • Prevention of spinal injury: Helmet helps in protecting the head and neck bones from shock.
  • Eye protection: Protects the eyes from strong wind, dust and flying particles.
  • Improvement in road safety: The habit of wearing helmet can reduce the cases of death and serious injuries in accidents.

What will change with the new rule?

With this decision, two-wheeler drivers will not have to spend extra to buy it and people will also develop the habit of wearing it. Road safety experts believe that if this rule is implemented properly, then there can be a big decline in road accident deaths in the country.
