In a head-on collision between two freight trains in Sahibganj, Barhet, Jharkhand, the loco pilots of both trains have died tragically. The accident was so gruesome that the engines of the freight trains were blown to pieces and caught fire. A freight train was already standing on the track when another freight train coming at high speed also came on the same track and collided with both. Now the question arises that how did such a big accident happen at 3.30 in the night? How did two trains come on the same track?

NTPC Assistant General Manager Shantanu Das told news agency IANS, “This accident will be investigated. Right now it seems that the controller here has made some mistake in setting the point. Assistant Loco Pilot i.e. ALP is also seriously injured. His statement will also be taken.”

‘It will take time to lift the loco’
The officer said that it may take time to lift the loco from the track, because this is not the work of a normal crane. Locos are very heavy and separate arrangements have to be made to lift them.

After getting information about the accident, railway officials, police and fire brigade reached the spot and started relief and rescue work. After extinguishing the fire, the bodies of the loco pilots were removed from the engine. One body was taken out and kept in the mortuary, but the other body was stuck in the engine for a long time. At the same time, the assistant loco pilot of a goods train has also been badly injured.

The injured include four people, including railway personnel and CISF jawans. All are undergoing treatment at the Community Health Center in Barhet.
