Clouds of crisis are looming over the chair of Rishikesh Municipal Corporation Mayor Shambhu Paswan. The Nainital High Court, while disposing of the petition related to his caste certificate, has directed the DM Dehradun to examine the certificate within four weeks and take a decision.

This is the whole matter

In fact, independent candidate from Rishikesh Dinesh Chandra Master had filed a petition alleging that Rishikesh’s elected mayor Shambhu Paswan had declared himself as a Scheduled Caste while contesting the election. Whereas in other documents he is registered as a General Caste. The petitioner says that Paswan got a Scheduled Caste certificate made shortly before the formation of the state and in 2016 a new certificate was issued on the same basis.

Rishikesh Mayor Shambhu Paswan may lose his chair

It is also alleged in the petition that a complaint was made to the District Magistrate. Despite this, the matter was not investigated. The relevant records were not made available even under the Right to Information. Let us tell you that if the allegations against Paswan are found to be true in the investigation, then Shambhu Paswan may have to lose the mayor’s chair.

What did Shambhu Paswan say in his defense?

On his defense, Shambhu Paswan has said that this dispute has arisen from the registration of the land. Which was done in the year 2002, in which general caste has been written by mistake. He claims that this was the mistake of the people who registered it and in all other documents his name is registered as Shambhu Paswan. He has called it a small matter, which is being unnecessarily blown out of proportion.
