This increase will affect lakhs of domestic and commercial consumers of the state. It is estimated that common consumers will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 25 to Rs 160 every month, which will vary depending on the consumption.

The new slab rates are as follows

  • Consumption up to 100 units: ₹3.40 per unit (increase of 25 paise)
  • 101 to 200 units: ₹4.90 per unit (increase of 30 paise)

  • More than 4 kW: ₹20 per kW extra will have to be paid
  • Discount continues on digital payment:

The Commission has given some relief to the consumers and clarified that those who pay the bill on time will continue to get discount:

  • On online payment: 1.5% discount
  • On payment through other means: 1% discount Discount

The burden of increase in electricity rates has not been put on the consumers below poverty line (BPL). They will continue to get the same concessional rates as before.

Why was the increase made?

On the demand of energy corporations, the Electricity Commission has fixed these rates after reviewing the prices. Although the companies had demanded an increase of more than 25%, the Commission took a balance and decided to put a limited burden on the consumers.

Electricity has become costlier by 5.62 percent in Uttarakhand. The new rates will be applicable from April 1. At the same time, electricity of 4.64 lakh BPL consumers of the state has become costlier by 10 paise per unit.
