The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others on charges of money laundering related to National Herald. Congress will protest outside ED offices across the country over this.
Congress General Secretary Organization KC Venugopal said, “PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah government’s sense of vengeance against the opposition has no limits. Action is being taken against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi using the politically motivated and fabricated National Herald case to silence the voice of the opposition. This shows the desperation of the Prime Minister and Home Minister, who have failed to address the concerns of the people and are constantly trying to divert attention.”
‘This family shed blood for the country’
Congress leader KC Venugopal said, “It seems that they (BJP) have forgotten that this is a family that has shed its blood for the country. These small tricks of theirs and using agencies are not going to stop us, rather it will strengthen our resolve against the disastrous regime.”
Congress leader KC Venugopal said, “We will protest outside ED offices across the country on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) and register our strong protest against this kind of vendetta and intimidation politics.” The chargesheet also includes the names of Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as accused. ED Special Public Prosecutor NK Matta filed the chargesheet under sections 3 (money laundering) and 4 (punishment for money laundering) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
ED accuses Rahul-Sonia
AJL is the publisher of the National Herald news platform (newspaper and web portal), which is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are majority shareholders of Young Indian, each holding 38 per cent shares. A few years ago, the ED had questioned them for hours in this case.
The ED found in its investigation that Young Indian, a private company beneficially owned by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, bought AJL property worth Rs 2,000 crore for just Rs 50 lakh, which is much less than its value. The ED alleged, “The properties of Young Indian and AJL were used to earn proceeds of crime in the form of fake donations of Rs 18 crore, fake advance rent of Rs 38 crore and fake advertisements of Rs 29 crore.
