An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 hit Afghanistan early Wednesday morning. Its intensity was so strong that its effect was felt in many areas of India. Tremors were felt in most parts of North India. However, its maximum impact was in Pakistan and Tajikistan. Some people on the microblogging site ‘X’ reported feeling earthquake tremors in Delhi-NCR.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 hit the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on Wednesday morning. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 75 kilometers from the ground in Afghanistan. An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 is considered powerful enough to cause serious damage. However, no news of casualties or damage has come out so far.
Earthquake tremors felt in many parts of India
It is being said that the tremors of the earthquake were felt in many parts of India including the Delhi-NCR region. Social media was flooded with messages about the earthquake. People of Delhi and neighboring states posted many posts on ‘X’ regarding seismic activity.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 4. The earthquake occurred at 10:06 am on Monday at a depth of 103 km from the ground. The effect of this earthquake was also felt in the northeastern states of India. Its impact was the highest in Manipur. Earlier on Sunday, an earthquake of 4.5 magnitude hit Myanmar. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 km, due to which it was considered susceptible to aftershocks.
Death toll 3649, 5018 people injured
Out of the hundreds of tremors that came after the March 28 earthquake, there has been no immediate report of any major damage or casualties due to this earthquake. According to Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the Myanmar military government, the death toll from the earthquake so far was close to 3,800, while more than 5000 people were injured.
The current humanitarian crisis worsened
The United Nations warned last week that the damage caused by the earthquake on March 28 would make the current humanitarian crisis in Myanmar even worse. Myanmar is currently battling a civil war. Due to this, more than 3 million people have already been displaced from here. The earthquake has badly affected agricultural production. Many medical facilities have been damaged or destroyed, creating a health emergency in Myanmar.
