Dengue terror has been seen in Uttarakhand for the last few years. This year too, the number of dengue infected patients has started increasing. More than 15 cases have been reported in Dehradun so far. In such a situation, the health department has become alert in view of the increasing number of dengue infected patients. The health department has issued guidelines for the prevention of serious infectious diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
Actually, the possibility of spread of dengue and chikungunya disease is very high during summer and rainy season. In view of which, the health department has issued comprehensive guidelines for inter-departmental coordination, active medical arrangements, public awareness, monitoring and field action to deal with these diseases in all the districts. Active participation of many departments including Municipal Corporation, Health Department, Water Corporation, Education Department, Rural Development, Information and Public Relations Department has been decided in this entire campaign.
All departments including the health department have been alerted. Along with this, detailed guidelines have been issued. Cleanliness is the first step to prevent mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya. Unless source control is done, mosquitoes cannot be completely controlled. Therefore, all the concerned departments have been directed to run continuous cleanliness campaigns, in which people will also be made partners.

Asha workers will go door to door to make people aware
Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that all municipal corporations and municipal bodies have been directed to regularly focus on cleanliness campaigns, cleaning of drains, removing waterlogging and garbage disposal. Under source reduction, teams of Asha workers will be trained and activated in the field, who will go door to door to make people aware.
Fogging will be done to eliminate mosquitoes
Fogging action will also be taken as per the need. So that mosquitoes can be destroyed. Along with this, handbills, posters, banners, street plays, seminars will be organized in schools for public awareness campaign. All blocks have been asked to prepare a micro plan and send it to the state NVBDCP unit.
Dengue cases in Uttarakhand in recent years-
- 37 cases of dengue were reported in the year 2024.
- 1,201 cases were reported in the year 2023. Whereas, 13 patients died.
- 1,434 cases were reported in the year 2022.
- 126 cases were reported in the year 2021.
- 4,991 cases were reported in the year 2019. Whereas, 6 people died.
Dengue isolation wards will be built
Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that state and private hospitals have been asked to implement arrangements as per the guidelines of the Government of India for the treatment of dengue and chikungunya patients.. Separate dengue isolation wards will be built in all the districts, in which beds equipped with mosquito nets, trained doctors, nursing staff and necessary equipment will be present.
It has been made mandatory to provide platelets, ELISA test kits and medicines etc. on time for serious patients. Suspected patients will be identified through fever survey and if a positive case is found, space spray/focal spray will be done within a radius of 50 meters from the patient’s house. Rapid Response Team (RRT) has been kept on alert mode in all the districts. So that immediate action can be taken in case of emergency.
Whether there is a case or not, report has to be given daily
He informed that the helpline number 104 operated at the state headquarters has been kept fully active for the public. So that, any person can share his problem and get immediate advice. Control rooms will be set up in all the districts during the dengue infection period. Their numbers will be made available to the state NVBDCP unit. All the districts have been directed to ensure daily reporting by 4 pm every day, whether there is a case or not.
Other departments will also play an important role along with the health department
Health Secretary Rajesh Kumar said that in this time’s action plan, special attention has been given to the fact that not only the health department, but all other departments will also play an important role. Departments like Urban Development, Panchayati Raj, Water Institute, School Education, Information and Public Relations have been assigned their responsibilities, so that the efforts to prevent dengue and chikungunya become stronger collectively.
