After the Pahalgam terror attack, there is anger in the entire country once again. The common people once again expect an aggressive response from the Modi government, while the government also faces practical challenges. On the other hand, taking lessons from past experiences, the opposition parties are adopting a balanced and neutral stance after the attack this time.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his first public statement after the terror attack in a public meeting in Madhubani district of Bihar on Thursday, an attempt was made to answer these expectations somewhere. He tried to assure the country that his government will try its best to live up to the expectations being placed on it.

New nationalism emerged after the surgical strike

In October 2016, India avenged the Uri attack by destroying terrorist hideouts by crossing the border of Pakistan through a surgical strike. Then in 2019, it avenged the terrorist attack in Pulwama by carrying out the Balakot air strike. Both these incidents gave birth to a new kind of nationalism in the politics of India. The 2019 general election was completely centered around this. An attempt was made to give the identity of a new India by entering the house.

Then the Galwan incident further increased this feeling. Its effect was seen at many levels. These incidents created the image of the Modi government as a strong leader and also got great political benefit from it. In such a situation, amid the pressure of these expectations, the pressure on the government to do something bigger at the beginning of the third term is natural. A top leader associated with the government said that practical aspects are also being looked at amid the pressure. No decision can be taken in a hurry for war or war-like situation.

On both the occasions in the past, the opposition parties suffered political losses due to the statements of some of their leaders. BJP accused the opposition of not being happy with India’s success and doubting the bravery of the army. The opposition suffered losses due to this narrative. This is the reason why the opposition has adopted a cautious approach after the attack this time. Congress held a CWC meeting and announced its support to the government on every action after the attack. According to sources, all other opposition parties clearly warned their leaders not to make any baseless statements.
