A police plane crashed in Thailand’s Hua Hin resort town on Friday morning. Six people lost their lives in the accident. The Thai National Police said on its social media page that the Police Aviation Department’s plane crashed into the sea near Cha-Am district in Phetchaburi province shortly after taking off from Hua Hin airport. All six people on board the plane were killed in the accident. Police said the accident occurred when the plane was flying for parachute training. All six people on board the plane were police officers.

Five people died on the spot

According to news agency Xinhua, five people died on the spot and one later died in the hospital. Video footage shows the plane falling into the sea. Initial investigations revealed that the plane’s engine malfunctioned shortly after takeoff. Police said the cause of the accident would be investigated. The Police Emergency Center in Phetchaburi province said they received a report of a plane falling into the sea near a local resort at around 8:15 am.

This accident happened during parachute training

Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol Lieutenant General Archayon Krathong said the incident occurred during a test flight being conducted to prepare for a parachute training exercise in Hua Hin. The victims were identified as Pol Col Prathan Khivkham, Pol Lt Col Panthep Maniwachirangkul and Pol Capt Chaturawong Wattanapaisarn, as well as aircraft engineer Pol Lt Thanawat Mekprasert and mechanics Pol L/Cpl Jirawat Maksakha and Pol Sgt Maj Prawat Pholhongsa, reports the Bangkok Post. Officials did not confirm the model of the aircraft, but photos from the scene showed it was a Viking DSC-6 Twin Otter. The plane fell into the sea about 100 metres from the coast. Photos showed the plane was half submerged and broken into two pieces.
