Modi cabinet approves caste census
Let us tell you that after independence, asking caste in the census was stopped. The opposition had been demanding caste census for the last few years. After which the central government has decided to ask caste in the census. Giving information, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Congress governments have opposed the caste census. Congress only conducted a survey despite the proposal. Congress has used it for its benefit. Many states have done caste census, which has spread confusion. Caste calculation should be included in the original census.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this decision has been taken in view of the clear provision in the Constitution keeping in mind the social fabric. In the year 2010, Dr. Manmohan Singh had said that the matter of caste census should be considered in the cabinet. A group of ministers was formed to consider this important issue. Most of the political parties had recommended caste census. Despite this, the government thought it best to conduct a survey instead of caste census, which is known as SECC.
What will change after the caste census is approved?
