Earthquake shakes again! 7.4 magnitude earthquake causes panic in Chile, evacuations and tsunami alert

Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in two South American countries, Argentina and Chile. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 7.4 on the Richter scale. This tremor came inside the sea, due to which there was a stir in the surrounding areas as well. People living near the southern tip of the country have been asked to evacuate their area and move to safer places.

Tsunami warning issued

Chilean President Gabriel Boric said in a post on X that instructions have been given to evacuate the coastal areas. A tsunami warning has also been issued after the strong earthquake tremor. The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service said that due to the tsunami warning, coastal areas of the Magallanes region have been ordered to be evacuated to safer places.

People fled from their homes

The USGS said that the epicenter of the earthquake was under the sea, 219 kilometers (173 miles) south of the Argentine city of Ushuaia. With the strong tremors of the earthquake, people started running out of their houses towards empty places. At present, there is no news of any damage or casualties. According to local media, tremors were also felt in Punta Arenas in Chile and Rio Gallegos in Argentina.

Magallanes is the least populated region

Magallanes is the largest and southernmost region of Chile and is the least populated region. According to government data, its total population in 2017 was about 1 lakh 66 thousand. Chilean President Gabriel Boric said that all the resources of the country are available to deal with the earthquake. Chile and Argentina fall in the sensitive area in terms of earthquake, because this area is located in the land called the Ring of Fire.
