The immigration policy after Donald Trump’s return to America is once again surrounded by controversies. On one hand, thousands of illegal immigrants like Indians, Brazilians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis were expelled from the country, while on the other hand, white people from South Africa were given a special welcome.

These white people were not only airlifted by the US government, but were also promised citizenship. This decision has now become the reason for serious allegations of racial discrimination. Most of the people who were expelled from America were citizens of Asia and Latin America. A large number of people from India, Brazil, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh were included. Many of them had reached America without valid documents after being deceived by agents. The Trump administration did not provide any humanitarian relief on the basis of “illegal entry”.

Why were white people from South Africa given priority?

The Trump administration gave priority to white people from South Africa, saying that these people are victims of racial discrimination and violence in their country. They are being deprived of jobs, land is being snatched and they are being killed. Trump described this class as minorities suffering from genocide and said that we will give them citizenship because America is a safe place for every persecuted. Under this policy, 49 white African citizens who arrived in America on Monday were brought by a special plane. Apart from this, 8000 more people have expressed their desire to settle in America.

Isn’t this racial bias?

Critics claim that this policy is based on racial preference, which is against the right to equality of the US Constitution. The Trump administration has not shown any leniency on humanitarian grounds for black or South Asian immigrants. This move promotes America’s white supremacist politics. However, President Trump defends the decision saying that we are not against any race, but those who are being persecuted should get help. ”

The New York Times rejected Trump’s claim

A detailed report by the New York Times questioned Trump’s claim that “white farmers in South Africa are being made victims of genocide.” According to the report, 225 deaths occurred in the fields from April 2020 to March 2024. Of these, 101 were labourers (mostly black). 53 white farmers were also killed. Police and human rights organisations have termed Trump’s claims as propaganda and political stunt.
