Candidates with three children will also be able to contest elections in Uttarakhand! Panchayati Raj Act Amendment Ordinance gets approval from Raj Bhavan

Actually, a provision was made in the Panchayati Raj Act that after 27 September 2019, whoever has more than two children will not be able to contest Panchayat elections. After this provision, the matter went to the court. After this, the court had given orders to consider twin children as single children. After this, the government also issued orders but the cut-off date in it was 25 July 2019. Due to which a contradictory situation had arisen. Due to which the Raj government decided to amend the Panchayati Raj Act. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved the amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act with a resolution. The “Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Ordinance 2025” was sent to the Raj Bhavan for the approval of the Governor.

In such a situation, the Governor has approved the “Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Ordinance 2025”. Along with this, the Uttarakhand government has also issued a notification in this regard. In such a situation, after the notification issued by the Uttarakhand government, the Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Act has come into force in the state of Uttarakhand. After the implementation of this Act, now people who have more than two children before 25 July 2019 will also be able to contest Panchayat elections. Along with this, people who have more than two children on or after 25 July 2019 will be deprived of contesting elections, but if on or after 25 July 2019, people whose number of children has become three due to having twins, they will also be able to contest elections. That is, twins will be considered as single children.
