Australia’s explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has retired from ODI. Today, on June 2, he announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket. 35-year-old Maxwell suddenly said goodbye to his 13-year ODI career. Due to which the fans are quite surprised. Along with the announcement of retirement, he has also given the reason for this.

Glenn Maxwell retires from ODI Cricket

Glenn Maxwell made his ODI debut on 25 August 2012. He played his first match against Afghanistan in Sharjah. In which he could score only two runs. At the same time, his last ODI match was the semi-final match against India in the Champions Trophy 2025. In this match too, he was out after scoring seven runs.

Reason for retirement

Glenn Maxwell (Glenn Maxwell ODI Retirement) has announced his retirement from his 13-year ODI career. He said that after retirement, he will now be able to focus more on T20 International cricket.

For information, let us tell you that Maxwell played an unbeaten innings of 201 runs in the year 2023. No one can forget his innings against Afghanistan. Along with this, he has also been a part of Australia’s 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cup winning team. Maxwell said in The Final Word podcast, “I have always said that if I feel that I am contributing equally to my team, then I would never be away from ODIs, but I did not want to play for selfish reasons.”

Said this about the 2027 World Cup

He further said that “the physical demands of ODI cricket, especially due to his foot injury, were affecting his performance.” Maxwell further talked about the 2027 World Cup and said, “I don’t think I will be able to reach there, it is time to start planning for other players in my place so that they can adopt this role”.

I always said that I would not leave my position as long as I feel that I am still good enough to play. I did not want to stay just for a few series and play for almost selfish reasons.”
