Uttarakhand: IAS Karmendra got tainted in his first field posting in Haridwar, know the profiles of the suspended officers

The two IAS officers who have been caught in the Haridwar land scam do not have any major service record. Both the officers were recently posted on public or field postings. In such a situation, after the action taken by the government, the credibility of these officers has definitely been tainted. A look at the service records of both the IAS officers:

The stain was put on the first posting itself

Karmendra Singh, posted as District Officer of Haridwar district, is considered to be a well-behaved and very calm officer. However, after this entire scam came to light, IAS Karmendra Singh had only this to say that he had no knowledge of this whole matter.

IAS Karmendra Singh was posted on a field posting in Haridwar for the first time. The 2011 batch IAS officer has previously been the Secretary in the Public Service Commission. Before that, in the year 2022, he was posted as Additional Secretary Personnel. This was his third posting. He came to Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh in the year 2020. Karmendra Singh originally hails from Gorakhpur, UP.

Similarly, IAS Varun Chaudhary has also not been on field posting for a long time. After the post of Municipal Commissioner in Haridwar, he is currently posted as Secretary in Health in the Government, while in the year 2023 he was posted as City Magistrate Haridwar and then SDM in Rishikesh. In such a situation, it was directly seen that this land was purchased when he was Municipal Commissioner in Haridwar. IAS Varun is a resident of Delhi. ETV Bharat spoke to Varun Chaudhary. Similarly, PCS officer Ajay Veer is an officer of the year 2017 batch. Ajayveer has been SDM Srinagar and SDM Kirtinagar. At present he is posted in Bhagwanpur, Haridwar, whereas earlier when this land scam happened, he was posted as Haridwar SDM.

Know what is the whole matter

Actually, in the year 2024, Haridwar Municipal Corporation had bought 2.3070 hectares of land in village Sarai for Rs 54 crore. This land was bought during the municipal elections. At that time, the entire responsibility of Haridwar Municipal Corporation i.e. the entire system was in the hands of the then Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary. It is alleged that the land bought by the Municipal Corporation was worth lakhs of rupees per bigha, but it was bought for 54 crores. Also, till date it has not been clear for what purpose this land was bought. After the matter came to light, the government gave the responsibility of investigation to Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan.

In the investigation of Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan, the matter of scam in land purchase came to light. After this the report was sent to the government. On the report of Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan, today on May 3, the government took action against a total of 12 officers including Haridwar District Magistrate Karmendra Singh, then Haridwar Municipal Commissioner IAS Varun Chaudhary and PCS Ajay Veer.
