Uttarakhand: There will be a vigilance investigation into the Haridwar land purchase scam, CM ordered cancellation of the deed

Taking a big action in the Haridwar land scam, the government has suspended Haridwar District Magistrate Kamendra Singh as well as an IAS and PCS officer, while Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also ordered a vigilance inquiry into the matter.

In the initial action, the government has suspended a total of ten officers with immediate effect, while the service of one employee has been terminated and the service extension of one has been terminated. The Chief Minister has directed the Vigilance Department to conduct a detailed investigation of the entire case, so that the entire chain of culprits can be revealed and transparency is maintained.

Apart from this, strict instructions have also been given to ensure the recovery of the money given to the landowners by cancelling the Sale Deed related to the land scam. The Chief Minister has directed to conduct a special audit of all the works done in the Municipal Corporation Haridwar during the tenure of the then Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary, so that the financial irregularities can be properly investigated.

The whole matter of land scam

Actually, this whole matter is of the year 2024. During the civic elections in the year 2024, the entire system of Haridwar Municipal Corporation was with the Municipal Commissioner. At that time, the responsibility of Haridwar Municipal Commissioner was with IAS Varun Chaudhary. The code of conduct was imposed in Haridwar district due to the municipal elections, then Haridwar Municipal Corporation bought 33 bighas of land. For what purpose this land was bought, it is not yet clear.

According to what has come out in the investigation so far, the garbage of Haridwar Municipal Corporation has been dumped in the area around the land that has been purchased. That is why the price of the land there was not much, but some officials of the Municipal Corporation and the administration got the agricultural land registered in 143 and bought it for Rs 58 crore from the government budget.

After this CM Dhami ordered an inquiry and the investigation was handed over to Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan. This action was taken only after the investigation report of Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan.
