Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said a big thing on the relationship between India and China on Monday (June 9, 2025). He feels that the tension between the two countries has reduced significantly, so there is a good opportunity to create triangular cooperation between RIC i.e. Russia-India-China. Sergei Lavrov said that the stalled work of RIC triangular cooperation can start again.

After the Galwan Valley attack in 2020, there was a lot of tension in the relations between India and China, which started to subside early this year, but due to the stance taken by China in the fight between India and Pakistan, the distance has increased once again. Even though China did not come out and support Pakistan during the 3-4 day fight between Pakistan and India last month, but as soon as the ceasefire took place between the two countries on May 10, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi gave a statement in support of Pakistan.

He said that it will always stand with Pakistan to maintain territorial integrity, sovereignty and national independence. Apart from this, China is the largest supplier of weapons to Pakistan, which were used against India during the war. However, these weapons could not do anything in front of India’s power. Now the Russian Foreign Minister feels that the tension between India and China is decreasing.

Addressing the ‘Future-2050 Forum’ in Moscow, Sergei Lavrov said that the resumption of joint work in the RIC format could be the first step towards Eurasian processes, including the creation of a multipolar architecture.

According to Russian news agency TASS, Lavrov said, “I really hope that we will be able to resume the work of the Russia-India-China triangle. We have not had a meeting at the level of foreign ministers for the last few years, but we are discussing this issue with our Chinese colleague and the Indian head of the Foreign Ministry.” He said, ‘I really hope that now that the tension has subsided, in my opinion, significantly on the border between India and China and the situation is stabilizing, then if there is a dialogue between New Delhi and Beijing, then we will be able to resume the work of this Russia-India-China triangle.’

Last week, a Pakistani delegation met Lavrov in Moscow and handed over a letter from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Lavrov said that direct dialogue between Pakistan and India is needed to build mutual trust between the two countries, the news agency reported, quoting the Russian Foreign Ministry.
