Delhi’s Leader of Opposition Atishi was taken into custody by the police on Tuesday (10 June). She had joined the protest against the bulldozer action in Kalkaji’s landless camp. Arvind Kejriwal got angry at the Delhi government for taking her into custody.
While being taken into custody, former Delhi CM Atishi attacked and said, “BJP is going to demolish these slums. Today they are taking me to jail because I am raising the voice of these slum dwellers. Bharatiya Janata Party, CM Rekha Gupta ji, you people will be cursed by the slum dwellers. BJP will never come back, these poor people will be cursed.”
Arvind Kejriwal furious at BJP government
Arvind Kejriwal said on Twitter, “The BJP government is destroying the homes of the poor in entire Delhi, making people homeless. When Aam Aadmi Party stands with the poor and raises their voice, our leaders are arrested. Today Leader of Opposition Atishi was taken into custody – this is dictatorship. BJP may arrest all of us, but we will continue to raise our voice for the rights of the common people of Delhi.”
‘Slums are being demolished after winning the election’
Earlier, on June 8, Atishi had attacked the BJP over the demolition of slums. She had said, “Before the assembly elections, the BJP had assured the slum dwellers that after their government is formed, they will be given houses at the same place where the slum is located, but after winning the elections, the slums are now being demolished.
Atishi said, “If there is a court order to demolish a slum, then the slum dwellers should have been given houses at a distance of one kilometer, but most of the people in Madrasi Colony were given houses in Narela. How will the people working in Bhogal and Ashram come to work 50 kilometers away from Narela? They will have to face a lot of difficulties.”
