Gunmen attacked a village in Nigeria and killed at least 100 people. The dispute was related to land, due to which there were frequent clashes between the two sides. Many houses were also set on fire in this massacre. The attack has been confirmed by the police and human rights group Amnesty International Nigeria.

People burnt alive

Amnesty International said that this massacre took place in the north-central state of Benue in Nigeria. Many people have lost their lives and some are missing in this incident that took place on Friday and Saturday (14-15 June 2025) in Yelewata village located in Guma area here. Giving information about this, the Human Rights Group wrote on a Facebook post, ‘Many families were locked in their bedrooms and burnt. So many bodies were burnt that it became difficult to identify them.’

Dozens went missing

According to Amnesty, hundreds of people are injured in this attack and dozens have gone missing. Some of them have not even been able to get medical facilities. Photos released on social media show burnt buildings, charred bodies and destruction all around. Benue State Police have confirmed the attack, but have not given the number of casualties. Police spokesperson Udeme Edet says that the police is assessing the ground situation.

Clash between farmers and herders

The police have not yet identified the killers, although continuous violence between herders and farmers has become a serious issue in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria. There is a conflict between them over water rights and land. Fulani herders are mostly blamed for these attacks. They graze cattle in traditional farming areas. Farmers accuse them of destroying the fields. Herders argue that they are following the law of 1965. In the past few years, herders have been suspected of such attacks.
