There was no trace of the people living in the houses and those working under the mound. Work was being done to build a wall by digging soil from the foundation of the mound. In the accident, the tractor carrying the soil also got buried on the spot. This scene was heart-wrenching.
This was the reason for the accident
Around a hundred houses are built on the Maya mound located near the Siddhababa temple. No one had even dreamed that such a big accident could happen due to the collapse of the mound. Actually, along with Maya mound, there are also Ambrish mound and Chidimar mound nearby. All these mounds are connected to each other. Work was being done to build a wall by digging soil from the foundation of the Maya mound. Soil was being excavated since morning on Sunday as well. With the help of hydra, the soil was being cut and loaded into tractor-trolleys and sent. Then around 12 noon, the soil of the mound started collapsing and the six houses built above it collapsed. This buried the people living in the houses as well as the labourers working below. The tractor carrying the soil also got buried under the debris.
The heart was shaken to see the scene
The mound slid in such a way that the debris of the houses was spread 60 to 70 feet away. Somewhere a gate was visible in the debris, somewhere a window. Someone’s box was lying there, someone’s refrigerator. Whoever saw this scene was shaken to the core. When the officials of the Municipal Corporation and the administration reached the spot, they too were left stunned. No one knew how many lives were buried under the debris. The half-constructed houses that remained after the collapse were also hanging, due to which there was a possibility of another accident anytime.
Three bodies recovered from the debris
The officials were also upset after seeing this scene, they were not able to understand where to start. The Municipal Corporation and the fire brigade started the work of removing the debris around 12:30 pm. During this, a young man was first taken out from the debris and two girls were taken out from the incomplete house. All three were declared dead by the doctors in the district hospital. The work of removing the debris is continuing.
SDRF and NDRF team started rescue work
The district administration had also called the SDRF and NDRF team on the incident. The SDRF team, which arrived from Etawah at around 3:30 pm, started the rescue work. At around 4:30 pm, the NDRF team also reached the spot. Both the teams have intensified the rescue work.
