Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Cyprus and on the second day of his visit, he has been awarded the highest honour of this European country. PM Modi is the 23rd leader of the world to receive Cyprus’ highest honour. On this honour, PM Modi said that this honour is not just mine but it is the honour of 140 crore people of the country. I dedicate this honour to the friendly relations between India and Cyprus and our mutual understanding.
In the capital Nicosia, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides honoured Prime Minister Modi with Cyprus’ highest honour, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III.

After being awarded the highest honour, PM Modi said, “I heartily congratulate you (President of Cyprus), the Government of Cyprus and the people of Cyprus for the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III. This honour is not just my honour for Narendra Modi, but it is an honour for 140 crore Indians. It is an honour for their strength and aspirations. It is an honour for the culture, brotherhood and ideology of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam of our country. I dedicate this honour to the friendly relations between India and Cyprus, our shared values and our mutual understanding.”
He further said, “On behalf of all Indians, I accept this honour with utmost humility and gratitude. This honour is a symbol of our unwavering commitment to peace, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity of our people. I understand the importance of this honour as a responsibility towards the relations between India and Cyprus and take it in that spirit. I am confident that our active partnership will touch new heights in the times to come. Together we will not only strengthen the development of our countries but will also contribute together to the creation of a peaceful and secure global environment.”
Official welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan
PM Modi was officially welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Nicosia earlier today on Monday. President Christodoulides warmly welcomed PM Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
PM Modi reached Cyprus yesterday on Sunday on his 3-nation tour. During this, PM Modi along with President Christodoulides participated in a round table meeting with business people in Nicosia and called for strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas like trade, investment and defense, as there is immense potential for development in this area.

PM reached Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, on Sunday. He also addressed the business leaders of India and Cyprus in the meeting. He said, Cyprus has been a trusted partner of India for a long time.
Addressing the program, PM Modi said, after 23 years an Indian Prime Minister has come on a visit to Cyprus and the first program was a round table meeting with the business people. This indicates how important the people associated with the economic world are for the relations between India and Cyprus. He also said that many Indian companies see it as the gateway to Europe.
PM Modi reached Cyprus yesterday as part of the first phase of his visit to 3 countries. After this he will also visit Canada and Croatia. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in the last two decades.
