High Court took cognizance of helicopter accidents in Chardham Yatra, sought answer from Dhami government

The Nainital High Court has taken a tough stand on the frequent helicopter accidents happening during the Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand. The court has taken suo motu cognizance of these accidents and has sought a detailed reply from the Dhami government of the state.

The High Court sought answers from the government on helicopter accidents 

The Nainital High Court has asked the state government how safe are the helicopters operating on the Yatra route and is there any concrete guideline to protect the lives and property of the passengers? The High Court has expressed deep concern over these incidents.

13 passengers have died in helicopter accident in Chardham yatra 2025

After the start of Chardham Yatra 2025, five helicopter accidents have taken place so far, in which a total of 13 people have lost their lives. The latest case is from last Sunday, when a helicopter crashed while returning from Kedarnath. In which 7 passengers died. Earlier on May 8, a helicopter crash also occurred in Uttarkashi, in which six people lost their lives.

Is it a technical flaw or operational negligence: HC

The Nainital High Court has also asked the Dhami government to clarify whether these accidents are due to technical flaws or operational negligence. The court has asked the state government to submit a detailed report on the next hearing date.
