Uttarakhand: Preparations to file a case against 17 colleges in the Scholarship Scam? Accused of embezzling scholarships worth lakhs!

The matter of robbing the scholarship of Muslim youth has started coming to light through the investigation report. At present, 17 educational institutions of the state are on the radar. Where the scholarship figures of hundreds of students are getting mismatched. However, this is just the beginning because many more big revelations can be made on its detailed investigation. On the other hand, the Minority Welfare Department has also decided to register an FIR on the basis of the investigation report.

The investigation has now been completed in the case of robbing the scholarship of minorities. Actually, a total of 92 educational institutions of the state were included in this investigation. In which irregularities have come to light regarding the scholarship of minority youth in about 17 institutions. However, this matter of irregularities in scholarship is not limited to Uttarakhand only, but the Ministry of Minority Welfare of the Government of India had also directed the state governments to investigate similar irregularities in many other states across the country including Uttarakhand.

If we talk about Uttarakhand, here the District Magistrates of all 13 districts were asked to get the investigation done by forming an investigation committee under the chairmanship of SDM. For this, about one month’s time was given, in which the investigation was to be completed. However, due to the investigation not being completed, on June 10, the Secretary of Minority Welfare Department wrote a letter to all the District Magistrates and instructed them to send the investigation report in the next few days.

Minority Welfare Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal confirmed that the government has received the investigation report of 92 educational institutions in all 13 districts in the state and this investigation has revealed that a total of 1058 students have taken scholarships in a wrong way. The special thing is that these students were said to be registered in 17 educational institutions. At present, the investigation has confirmed the usurpation of scholarships worth about 91 lakh rupees.

Irregularities have been found in educational institutions of a total of 4 districts in the state. These include Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Nainital and Rudraprayag districts. 6 educational institutions of Udham Singh Nagar district, 7 of Haridwar, 2 of Nainital and 2 of Rudraprayag have also been found involved in the irregularities.

On the other hand, preparations are also being made by the Minority Welfare Department to register a case against such educational institutions in the state. At present, the investigation report is being tested by the department and it has also been decided to file a case against the college committing fraud in it.

The Government of India has given time to submit the investigation report within 24 hours i.e. 17 June. In such a situation, the Minority Welfare Department has received reports from all the districts a day earlier. Along with this, the Minority Welfare Department will share information related to this in the National Scholarship Portal.

In fact, in the month of May, the Government of India had indicated irregularities in the scheme related to scholarship of minorities to Uttarakhand and instructions were also issued to investigate it. After this, Secretary Minority Welfare Dhiraj Singh wrote a letter to all the District Magistrate and directed to investigate the matter. This case of irregularities in the scholarship of minorities is of 2021-22 and 2022-23, for which instructions have been received from the Center to investigate.
