DGCA’s big decision after Ahmedabad plane crash, asked Air India to remove DGCA officials

The DGCA has ordered the removal of three Air India officials from all roles and responsibilities related to crew scheduling. In its order dated June 20, the DGCA also asked the Tata Group-owned airline to initiate internal disciplinary proceedings against these officials without delay. According to the DGCA order, the three officials also include a divisional vice president of the airline.

Removed officials

  • Churha Singh, Divisional Vice President
  • Pinky Mittal, Chief Manager, DOPS, Crew Scheduling
  • Payal Arora, Crew Scheduling, Planning

Details of violations

These officials are accused of serious and repeated irregularities, including:

  • Unauthorised and non-compliant crew pairing
  • Violations of mandatory licensing and recency rules
  • Systematic failures in scheduling protocols and monitoring

DGCA directions

The DGCA has issued the following directions with immediate effect. Air India has been ordered to remove the officers from all roles and responsibilities related to crew scheduling and rostering. Internal disciplinary action against the three officers should be initiated immediately, and its report has been directed to be submitted to the DGCA office within 10 days.

These officers should be transferred to non-operational roles until scheduling improves, and they will not be appointed to any responsibility having a direct impact on flight safety and crew compliance until further orders.

Emphasis on flight safety

This action of DGCA makes it clear that there will be no compromise on flight safety and compliance with rules. Air India has been instructed to ensure improvement in scheduling processes so that such lapses do not happen again in future. This step is not only to make the functioning of Air India transparent, but also gives a message of giving priority to the safety of passengers.

DGCA’s action after the accident

On June 12, a flight from Ahmedabad Airport to London crashed during takeoff. In this deadly crash, 241 out of 242 people on board the plane died. Luckily, one person survived. This plane crash saddened the whole world. In the plane crash, not only the people on board the plane lost their lives but also the doctors who were eating in the mess of the medical college lost their lives because the plane collided with the building of the medical college.
