Indian team’s veteran batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 International and Test formats, but both of them will continue to play in ODIs. There is no doubt that Rohit and Kohli have their eyes set on playing in the ODI World Cup to be held in 2027. Now former India captain Sourav Ganguly has also given his opinion on this. Ganguly says that it will not be easy for Rohit and Kohli to remain fit and make a place in the Indian team for the World Cup.
Under Rohit’s captaincy, India missed out on winning the 2023 ODI World Cup title and had to face defeat at the hands of Australia in the final. The next ODI World Cup is to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027, for which there is still time. By the time this ICC tournament will take place, Kohli will be 38 years old and Rohit will be around 40 years old. Rohit and Kohli have expressed their desire to play in this global tournament.
Ganguly said- Rohit and Kohli will decide on their own game
Ganguly said in an interview to news agency PTI, ‘We all have to understand that like everyone else, one day the game will go away from him and he will go away from the game. Playing only 15 matches in a year, it will not be easy.’ Ganguly, who was a brilliant ODI batsman during his playing days, was asked what advice he would like to give to Rohit and Kohli. To this he said, I will not give any advice. I think they understand their game very well. They will take the decision.
Ganguly also said that the kind of player Kohli is, it will not be easy to find a player like him. However, he is not worried about Indian cricket after the retirement of these two legends. Ganguly said, I am not worried. Virat is a great player. It will take time to find his replacement, but I am not surprised.
‘Yuvraj did not get many opportunities in Tests’
Regarding former Indian team all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, Ganguly said that he is a special player who shone in the white ball format, but he did not get opportunities to show his skills in the traditional format. Ganguly said, I saw Yuvraj for the first time in Nairobi and I understood that he is special. What he did for India in ODI cricket is unbelievable. He was the Player of the Series in the 2007 T20 World Cup, Player of the Tournament in the 2011 ODI World Cup. Unfortunately, he did not get so many opportunities in Test cricket. He played only 30 Tests. He got stuck between Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly and VVS Laxman but he has been a special player.
