US President Donald Trump has brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Israel on Qatar’s recommendation. This disclosure has been made by the magazine Newsweek quoting US diplomatic sources. The report says that as soon as Iran fired missiles on Qatar, Qatar’s Emir and Prime Minister started looking towards America.
Newsweek quoted the US ambassador as saying that on Qatar’s recommendation, Trump spoke to his Middle East envoy Witkoff. Witkoff then called his Iranian counterpart.
Qatar’s Emir remained active till the announcement
According to the report, Qatar’s Emir and Prime Minister remained active till the ceasefire was announced. Both of them kept talking to US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Iran had launched a missile attack on Qatar at midnight on Monday. Iran had fired 6 missiles at the US airbase in Doha. Qatar was still afraid of further attacks.
Iran placed a condition on Witkoff’s phone
Axios has quoted White House sources as saying that as soon as Witkoff called Iran’s Foreign Minister, the Foreign Minister placed a condition. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the matter can be resolved only if Israel stops the attack.
According to Araghchi, Israel started the war. Stopping the attack is also its job. If Israel stops the attack, then we will also not attack. On the phone, Witkoff assured Iran that Israel will not attack after the next 24 hours.
After talking to Iran’s Foreign Minister on the phone, Witkoff sent his message to the White House. After this, the US President announced a ceasefire.
Big question – what’s next in the war?
Israel and America were trying to end Iran’s uranium enrichment. Under this strategy, America targeted 3 nuclear sites of Iran. However, Iran says that there was no uranium there.
According to a report in The Telegraph UK, Iran shifted 400 kg of uranium before the attack. No one has any information about this.
Israel says that Iran will not be able to make a nuclear bomb for one or two years. What will happen next will largely depend on Iran’s next strategy.
