An accident occurred during the world famous Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha. 581 devotees were injured due to excessive crowd during the chariot pulling on Friday. They have been admitted to the hospital. At least 8 devotees have been taken to the district headquarters hospital after their condition deteriorated.

It is being told that a large number of devotees had gathered for the chariot pulling ceremony during the Rath Yatra on the Grand Road of the pilgrimage city. During this, devotees were injured due to excessive crowd. This incident happened when the work of pulling the Taladhwaj chariot of Lord Balabhadra started.

It is being told that due to their devotion and emotion, thousands of devotees ran together to touch the rope of the Taladhwaj chariot. The crowd tried to pull the chariot towards the Gundicha temple about two and a half kilometers away. That’s when people got injured.

According to sources, 581 of the injured devotees were admitted to Hi-Tech Hospital while 173 were taken to High Dependency Unit (HDU). 68 injured devotees were treated in OPD. At least eight devotees were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after their condition deteriorated.
